Thing 4

This seemed to be the easiest "thing" of all. I had no idea these tools existed where you could completely customize your homepage. Since I am doing this from home, I look forward to seeing if we have this same option at school.

  1. First of all, very debonair avatar -- I am happy to report that we are able to sign into igoogle from school. I think I was also able to view my page flakes custom homepage as well. It does help to organize things for sure. Google's calendar gadget works pretty well and is compatible with a lot of mobile devices.

  2. I ditto what Maureen said - the only hang-up with the customized page at school is getting into your other email accounts -

  3. Maybe it is time to start the discussion about the worst thing that can happen if we start to loosen up on restrictions. Right now we are following the advice of our attorneys. Seems like we are working very hard to prevent communication.

  4. I had been under the impression that the email restriction was more about cost than anything else...Perhaps discussions with other systems and how they are managing these issues might shed some light. And, unfortunately, in our highly litigious society, the opinion and advice of attorneys MUST play a part in any discussion on this previously uncharted territory!

  5. I am glad to hear that we can access our personalized home page but I do like the web net for the students and teachers as it allows me a way to post sites for student and teacher use without having to create endless "hot lists." However, now that I'm learning about Delicious maybe that can be my vehicle of sharing. As for email, I thought the restriction to access home email was for security as well as a time issue. It would be nice to have an email system for students. I used epals with second graders once and it was great to be able to exchange readers' responses on stories in our anthology. Lots to think about.
